Of Indo/Celt origin, she left her homeland while still very young to travel the world seeking techniques capable of releasing the creative, dynamic and vital process of being.
She had the privilege of working closely with great teachers in the creative arts East and West (dance, music, theatre) and also with spiritual masters in the field of Yoga and Tibetan and Zen Buddhism. These encounters enabled her to define and classify her teaching methods in the system Moving breath which brings together both traditional and contemporary creative techniques in yoga, voice, rhythm and dance and also lays emphasis on improvisation and group dynamics as well as her original method of breath and movement coordination in preparatory exercises.
She performed worldwide as a dancer and choreographer of contemporary dance. She was the first Indian to succeed as a contemporary dancer in the West. She won a triple scholarship to the
Marta Graham Studio, the
Merce Cunningham Studio
and The New York School Of Ballet, then danced with the N.Y. based company
Twyla Tharp & Dancers after having been a member of the very first
London Contemporary Dance Theater.
She moved to Paris after the US where as a precursor of the modern dance movement in France she performed as a soloist collaborated with contemporary musicians and artists, and choreographed for her own company of nine dancers ‘Le Cercle’.
She then returned to India in a new search for ‘roots’, became the disciple of
Guru Keluchharan Mohapatra, the greatest living master of Odissi dance. She also studied Kathak with the late Pandit DurgaLal, Hindustani vocal music with the late Pandit Vinaya Chandra Maudgalya and Dhrupad vocal music with several eminent exponents of the
DAGAR Family.
She abandoned her international career as a dancer and choreographer to delve deeper into the creative and energetic potential of Yoga, linking the experience of dance and music.
She founded the Chakra Centre for East West Synthesis in Southern France in 1984 where she trained teachers in the Moving breath system. Since closing down the Centre in 2002, she has been applying the Moving Breath techniques to different fields: from Education to the Performing Arts and also Healing.
A much appreciated teacher and group leader, she travels worldwide bringing her knowledge and enthusiasm to people of all ages and in all walks of life.
