A Bone Can Dense
This series of breath and movement is part of a method which I now call Lunar Artz Yoga, which addresses specific feminine needs and aspirations. The practices are designed to enable women to face the key moments in their lives, including menstruation, pregnancy and menopause.
The "Breathing the Bones" series has been specifically designed to strengthen bones and help protect menopausal and pre-menopausal women against osteoporosis.
Women who have been practicing the series on a daily basis have seen their bone density levels increase.
The exercises are simple to learn and progress from easy to more complex coordination. One of the main features is increasing the duration of bearing weight on one leg and encouraging the weight bearing leg to adjust to different postural alignments. This, combined with a pumping mechanism through breath and special hand movements has a deep and positive impact on the bones.
I created the Breathing the Bones series in the year 2000. Since then, it has been taught to many women, with very positive results, corroborated by bone density controls.
A new series, more recently elaborated, explores specific techniques helpful to increasing bone-density in floor-work exercises, for people who have difficulty with vertical balance. This series, along with a second new series using chairs, was taught for the first time in the autumn of 2005 in Turin.
